News: Samsung announces first Android phone

Samsung has announced its first Android mobile phone – a touchscreen device set for release in June

The i7500 handset features a 5-megapixel digital camera and will connect to Wi-Fi networks as well as 3G and HSDPA mobile networks.

It has 8GB of memory built in and will be initially available exclusively on O2's network in Germany.
It is not yet clear if this will be the case in the UK. An O2 spokeswoman said: ‘Telefónica was a founder member of the Open Handset Alliance established by Google last year and is therefore supportive of this initiative.

'As always we want to offer our customers the best range of devices and services, and those that provide the best customer experience. We will therefore take a view on all handsets incorporating the Google Android system based on these criteria.’
